Ceramic (Clear) Braces

At Cavalancia Orthodontics, we strive to provide several great options for braces treatments. It’s becoming increasingly popular for patients to seek out less conspicuous options for straightening teeth, and as orthodontic technology has advanced, the number of ways this can be achieved has grown. One such treatment method is ceramic braces.

What are Ceramic Braces?

Ceramic braces operate the same way as traditional metal braces, but instead of highly visible metal brackets and wires, ceramic braces are made using translucent ceramic. In addition to being translucent, ceramic brackets are stain-resistant and have a lower profile, which provides a more aesthetic treatment option compared to metal braces.

Benefits of Ceramic Braces

Cavalancia Orthodontics makes sure to use the highest quality ceramic brackets to ensure minimal discoloration and reduce any potential risk of fracture. Our staff also uses clear ties to secure the wire to the bracket, which seamlessly blends into the natural color of your teeth. These features allow for the same quality treatment of metal braces, but with the benefit of less visible treatment for those who may not be good candidates for other inconspicuous treatment methods such as invisible aligners.

How to Care for Ceramic Braces

No matter what treatment method you choose, good oral hygiene is an important part of the orthodontic process, and this includes keeping both your braces and teeth clean.

Brushing

Brushing your teeth each morning, night, and after every meal is necessary to remove food particles and bacteria that could otherwise get trapped among the brackets and wires and cause damage to your teeth.

Flossing

Flossing between your teeth and around brackets and wires will also help remove plaque and food particles from their many hiding places. Since flossing around braces can sometimes be more challenging, try using a floss threader to get into the hard-to-reach areas. Floss at least once every 24 hours, and if possible, following every meal.

Avoid Certain Foods

Some foods are potentially rougher on braces than others and should be avoided. Foods that are especially sticky, hard, or crunchy can damage brackets and wires. Super sugary foods, which can damage teeth anyway, become especially dangerous since they can become trapped in areas around braces, leading to tooth decay.
